Radio-opaque Embolization Microspheres
Current embolic therapies all suffer from the same key clinical issue: they lack radiopacity; that is they are not visible on X-ray systems used to monitor the procedure. Consequently, clinicians using embolic microspheres are challenged with issues of improper dispersion with undetected ‘through embolization’ and ‘non target embolization’ which can result in significant complications and poor outcomes. To mitigate against such adverse events, contrast agents (X-ray dye) are mixed with the embolic agents to indirectly aid with visualization. However, contrast media can be toxic and results in deleterious effects on renal function in susceptible patients. ABK’s Easi-Vue embolization microspheres will provide clinicians with intrinsically radiopaque and biocompatible permanent embolic microspheres.
